Do New Doors or Parts Come With a Warranty?
They sure do! Garage door warranties vary slightly by model. Generally, paint has a lifetime warranty, glass has a 10-year warranty, and parts have a three-year limited warranty. Our new Liftmaster openers have a three to five-year warranty on parts. For belt drive machines, the belt and motor have lifetime warranties. We also offer a one-year warranty on our labor. Our experienced installers generally take two to three hours to replace a garage door, and a garage door opener takes around an hour to replace.

What Horsepower Garage Door Opener Do I Need?
A ½ horsepower opener will generally lift any residential door. There are a few exceptions for overly large or heavy doors, and we’re happy to help determine what you may need. Several Liftmaster models come with DC motors that are equivalently powerful even though they don’t have an HP rating.
How long does a garage door last, and how do I know when it’s time to replace it?
Most garage doors last between 15 and 30 years, though the actual lifespan depends on the material, how often the door is used, and how well it’s been maintained over the years.
As a general guide by material:
- Steel (the most common): 15 to 30 years
- Solid wood: 20 to 30 years with regular upkeep
- Aluminum: 15 to 25 years
- Wood composite: 15 to 20 years

In a lot of cases, you don’t need to replace your whole opener to get smartphone control and monitoring. LiftMaster’s myQ technology can be added to many existing openers through a compatible add-on device, so it’s worth checking before assuming you need a full replacement.
Here’s a quick way to think about it:
- If your LiftMaster or Chamberlain opener was made after 1993 and has a learn button, it’s likely compatible with a myQ Smart Garage Control add-on.
- If your opener already has a yellow learn button and a Wi-Fi or ‘Powered by myQ’ logo on the motor head, you’re all set. Just download the myQ app and connect.
- Very old openers, generally pre-1993, may not be compatible. At that point, a full replacement is usually the more practical call anyway.
