Frequently Asked Questions
Browse our list of FAQs and answers for more information on our garage door services.
What’s Included When You Purchase a New Garage Door?
Our new garage doors come with sections, tracks, springs, hardware and weather seals.
Can I Replace Some or All of the Sections of My Garage Door?
Yes, as long as the model you have is still available. Replacing all the sections with another model may not be possible without new tracks and springs, as the door’s thickness and weight could differ. We’re happy to examine your situation and help you find the best, long-term solution.
Do You Offer Any Discounts On New Garage Doors?
We sometimes have excess stock available at discounted prices. When you reach out to us for a quote, we’ll check our inventory and offer discounted rates if we have excess stock.
How Soon Can You Service My Garage Door In an Emergency?
We offer 24/7 emergency services. Call us at 616-399-3157 for assistance, and we’ll be there as soon as possible.
What Should I Do With My Old Garage Door After I Get a New One?
Our experienced team can remove and dispose of your old door and/or opener. If you have another use for it, we’ll happily leave it on-site after we’ve wrapped up your installation.
Do You Service Other Garage Door Brands Besides Clopay®?
We service all brands of garage doors and garage door openers. In the rare event that we haven’t encountered certain equipment before, our experienced service technicians can still diagnose the problem, and we’ll work with you to devise the best solution.
Do New Doors or Parts Come With a Warranty?
They sure do! Garage door warranties vary slightly by model. Generally, paint has a lifetime warranty, glass has a 10-year warranty, and parts have a three-year limited warranty. Our new Liftmaster openers have a three to five-year warranty on parts. For belt drive machines, the belt and motor have lifetime warranties. We also offer a one-year warranty on our labor. Speak to our team to discuss the warranties for specific models.
What Should I Do if My Garage Door Is Making an Unusual Noise?
Strange noises can be caused by several different issues, such as parts that need lubrication, an off-balanced garage door or a faulty opener motor. Fixing these issues on your own can be dangerous and lead to more damage, so it’s best to hire a professional for garage door repairs.
Do Garage Doors Really Need Ongoing Maintenance?
Yes, garage doors need periodic maintenance. Hiring experts for regular preventive maintenance services can prolong your door’s life span and enhance your home’s security.
Can I Paint My Garage Door?
Yes, you can paint your door. Any exterior latex paint will work. Ensure you clean your garage door thoroughly ahead of time. A combination of TSP (trisodium phosphate) and water is suggested for cleaning the door prior to painting. Before you paint, note that some doors with overlay material may have restrictions for painting.
Remember, if the paint isn’t fully dry before coming in contact with the exterior weather seals, the door may initially struggle to open, as it may be stuck to the seals. Plan your painting project so the door can dry before fully closing. Feel free to ask our experts for tailored advice before you start painting.
Does My Garage Door Need Weather Stripping?
Yes, especially because Michigan is cold. The benefits of insulating your garage door include improved temperature control, noise reduction and energy efficiency.
What Payment Methods Do You Accept?
We accept cash, checks and credit cards.
Why Won’t My Garage Door Open?
Troubleshooting common garage door issues involves multiple possibilities. It might be an alignment issue, broken cables or faulty springs.
Why Won’t My Garage Door Close?
Often, homeowners have issues with garage door sensors, faulty remotes or wiring. First, make sure nothing is blocking your sensor, and check your remote batteries. If the problem persists, it may be an issue with the power supply or wiring, which requires professional repairs.
Do I Need to Be Home When You Service or Install My Garage Door?
You don’t have to be home while we service or install your garage door or opener as long as we have access to the garage. In fact, most of our repairs and installations are done without anyone at home, as our business hours are generally in line with first-shift working hours. If you’d prefer to be there, we can make that work, too.
How Long Does It Take to Install a Garage Door?
Our experienced installers generally take two to three hours to replace a garage door, and a garage door opener takes around an hour to replace.
Is R-Value Important When Picking Out a New Door?
R-values are important because they measure insulation quality. Choosing a high R-value door benefits your home in many ways. For example, it can increase your home’s sustainability through energy savings and help protect you and your family from extreme temperatures.
What Horsepower Garage Door Opener Do I Need?
A ½ horsepower opener will generally lift any residential door. There are a few exceptions for overly large or heavy doors, and we’re happy to help determine what you may need. Several Liftmaster models come with DC motors that are equivalently powerful even though they don’t have an HP rating.
